Frequently Asked Questions
-
If you’d like to first try out one of our classes, you can “request a trial” when selecting the class. You’ll receive a confirmation shortly after if space is available and your kid meets the age requirements of the class.
-
Showers/Bathrooms: Shower towels and sweat towels are provided (In the event your child would like to shower)
Lockers: For children attending independently, lockers are available in the bathrooms to store personal items. This helps keep the reception area and gym space clear. Parents are welcome to hold onto their children's belongings. It's a small club and locks aren't required but can be used if you wish.
-
Hang Out: We have a small reception area for parents who wish to wait and chat. Alternatively, you're welcome to observe the class from inside the gym, using available benches or boxes. We kindly ask that you minimize conversation and interaction with the children during class to reduce distractions, as they benefit most from focusing on the coach's instructions. However, we encourage enthusiastic cheering during relay races or other final activities.
Off-Site Option: Tommy's Coffee and Wine Bar, located across the street, offers a comfortable seating area where you can work, have a conversation, or enjoy a beverage.
Media: As you noticed in our waiver, we have a media release form. As such, we ask that you refrain from taking videos/photos during the class unless this is a private dryland training session and your team allows this. If so, we can always use support with a share!
-
Indoor Shoes: Please provide a separate pair of clean indoor shoes for your child. Outdoor shoes are not permitted in the gym. We often begin workouts in socks to enhance foot and ankle musculature, promoting proper gait and running mechanics.
Water Bottle: Our reception sink serves as a water bottle filling station. Water and Cwench beverages are also available for purchase in the fridge.

While our programs vary (e.g., dryland training vs. strength and conditioning), our core philosophy remains consistent: foundational movement principles are essential for success in both sports and everyday life. We deliver these principles in a supportive and engaging manner, ensuring each participant is challenged according to their individual ability. We believe physical activity should be a positive experience. Therefore, if a child is disruptive or not following instructions, we will ask them to sit out for a brief observation period, rather than resorting to punitive exercises.
-
Your child's safety is our top priority.
Resistance training is safe for youth and does not stunt growth. However, many children lack the kinesthetic awareness required for advanced weightlifting. We focus on resistance movements that minimize injury risk, even with less-than-perfect form, while allowing them to develop proper technique.
Feeling out of breath during exercise is normal and safe, although it can be unfamiliar for children new to physical exertion. We will safely encourage children to step outside their comfort zones, when they are ready, while emphasizing the positive aspects of camaraderie and post-workout endorphins.
For a deeper understanding of these concepts, please listen to our podcast at youthleteacademy.ca/podcast.
